Faribault Woolen Mills: Craft, Heritage & The Road Ahead
October 8, 2020To Krissa, Jessica, Angie, Mark, Paul, The Moody Family and The Faribault Woolen Mill Community:
Thank you for the opportunity and time to come visit the mill. The experience of being able to spend a few days with you all in Faribault is a moment I will carry with me wherever I go. Getting to meet all the extremely talented and dedicated members of the mill community is true testament to the pride and craftsmanship each person takes in their role. To uphold the quality and expectation that the Faribault name has come to embody in its 155 year existence.
To visit one of the last vertically integrated mills in the country is both humbling and a history worth preserving. Whether you’re formally trained or learned as you go, there are decades worth of time, energy and passion that have been devoted to create some of the worlds best wool products. It is evident in what the mill creates and in the each of the people that fill the mill.
As the mill looks to the future and prepares for what lies ahead, the world is changing and understanding how Faribault must adapt is critical. To hear, see, smell and feel the long, beautiful history makes every decision for growth and preservation that much more valuable. The mill is a vital part of the community allowing for many to enter its doors and without the community the mill would just be. Working to preserve the history, the relationships and the luxurious wool created is the objective truth each person recognizes and values as meaningful.
Wool has the opportunity to change the world and to impact people’s lives. If it wasn’t for wool and the tremendous effects its had in my life, this experience would never have manifested. To feel the warmth and see the beautiful history of Faribault Mills is the very thread I have been chasing to devout my passions too. To experience and meet all of the wonderful, colorful people the mill brings together to call “family” has been a joy.
This is Faribault Woolen Mills and its story.
